Private capital is transforming India's healthcare landscape. But is its growth reaching the people who need better healthcare access the most?
A landmark study published in BMC Health Services Research examined 70 private-equity-backed healthcare acquisitions between 2007 and May 2025, revealing a striking pattern of geographic and sectoral concentration.
Hospitals accounted for 64.3% of acquisitions, with multispecialty facilities dominating hospital-related investments. Much of this activity was concentrated in urbanized states, particularly Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Telangana.
